Speedcubing is NOT a Sport! Weekly Cubing Topicals

Hey YouTube its me Spotty! Hope youre all doing great! Welcome to another Weekly Cubing Topicals! Is Speedcubing a Sport? This was the title of a pretty old discussion,
discussing, well, just that. Whether or not speedcubing should be defined
or fall under the term sport. To my surprise, the majority of the people
posting said yes, with logical but I would call desperate reasoning. Now you may completely disagree with what
Im about to say; this is just my opinion, but be sure to leave yours down in the comments
section below whether you agree or not! Before we get into it though, lets start
off with a definition of the word sport because this will greatly influence what you think
about this topic right? Maybe you see a sport as any skilled activity.

Or lets go a bit further and say any skilled
activity where you compete against another or others. In the Oxford Dictionary the word sport is
defined as: An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual
or team competes against another or others for entertainment. And I think the key words there are INVOLVING
PHYSICAL EXERTION, something that speedcubing doesnt really do, in my opinion anyways. Oh and by the way, finger tricks are NOT physical
exertion.

But lets say that you dont really like
the Oxford Dictionary definition and you want to stick with the first one. Any skilled activity where you compete against
another or others. The problem I have with the first definition
is that its just too loose. Going by that we could call chess a sport.

Chess is an activity which requires skill
and practice and there are huge tournaments that take place around the world between serious
chess players. With this definition we could call debating
a sport. Debating also requires skill and practice. You need to boldness to speak in front of
large crowds, against your opposing team and you need to persuade people while keeping
them engaged.

So skilled, competitive and entertaining. With this definition we could call playing
guitar a sport. This requires time and skill to master and
Im no guitar hobbyist or professional so Im not 100% sure but Im almost definite
that there would be many guitar competitions or at least competitions that you would need
a guitar player to be a part of. I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

So what do I think speedcubing falls under? I think that speedcubing is a skilled and
competitive activity or hobby and while I. Dont think I could call it a sport as such,
its still amazing in the way that it brings people together, creates opportunities to
serve, compete and have fun and just is an oddly strange hobby that many people have
come to love! But yeah, thats all Ive got to say. Thank so much for watching and Ill catch
you guys soon!.
